Priss, Berry Berry, has reported that four out of the ten committee members of the Association of Bloggers (Singapore) have quit.

Now, I am not the kind of person who’d claim credit for something without definite proof, so– No, wait, that’s wrong. I must have been thinking of someone else. I’m exactly the kind of person who’d claim credit for vague, circumstantial reasons. To wit –

I have sunk this ship!

I didn’t do it alone, of course, and I’d like to thank all the little people who have helped me in this, my noble endeavour.

We were like loose sand.

But, united by truth, justice, and a sense of malicious glee, we have become loose sand that has achieved something!

We are Loose Sand 2.0.

What Really Happened

Which means I don’t have to hold back, in the event that I decide to further bitch about this, out of respect for respectable people. Not to imply that those who’re Left Behind aren’t respectable, but they’ve now had two chances to disengage from Eastcoastlife, so yeah, their sanity is questionable.

All of the leavers cite “a lack of time” and whatnot. Folks, I know there’s a recession going on, but the exchange rate for time is going down. Time is, in fact, cheaper.

On the plus side, their leaving means the Association is now Eastcoastlife (and Friends).

Are we to believe that the very people who have made such a fuss about pouring blood sweat and tears into this suddenly find themselves bereft of time? Have they not been free enough to meet up for godknows how many meetings? I mean, coming up with “The List” must have taken awhile (unless it’s a short list?).

Of course, you want to know what really happened. And, with my inside knowledge, gleaned through many grueling minutes of the most intense baseless speculation, I shall tell you.

They disagreed with Eastcoastlife, no agreement could be reached, they left.

This can clearly be seen by the fact that both Endoh and xtralicious have mentioned a focus on “education”. This is clearly not what Eastcoastlife has in mind, which is another button to put on her blog. What she intends for the Association is, I’m sure, more in line with getting invites to parties and allsuch, being able to sit with “real” journalists.

Whichever the case, with two divergent aims, they’ve split. With Eastcoastlife, I would imagine, any difference would fall under the category of “irreconcilable”.

Failure, it turns out, as Ian, the Blue Berry, pointed out, is, in fact, their common destination.

Anyhow, methinks when the leavers find some time and – an unlikely event, admittedly – decide to try again, the response would not be so negative. I will say, firmly and publicly, right now, that they probably have my support, and that I will probably not take them to task. Maybe.

In the interest of “full disclosure”, I should state that the above was not in any way influenced by the fact that I was linked by xtralicious in some post about topless bloggers. She placed me in such ignoble company as Grievous, the Grapevine Spider, and Xiaxue.

Educational workshops should be welcome. People want to be free of the tyranny of fixed-width columns, released from the oppression of blindingly white backgrounds.

Give a man a template, and you RSS him once. Teach a man CSS, and you RSS him forever.

If nothing else, more people can understand this –

The Shakespeare Code

sub to_be_not_to_be {
$fortune["outrageous"] = @suffer["slings"]+@suffer["arrows"];
$sea["troubles"] = @take["arms"]+@oppose["end"];
if ($fortune["outrageous"]-$sea["troubles"] >= 1) { return "nobler"; };
};
@mind_contents=&to_be_not_to_be;

Spilled Milk1

Some chick called alexisthetiny has likened this to some people making themselves Masters of Biking (Singapore).

The relevant bit is this –

Guess why we went underground with riding now?

If this had occurred to me sooner, I wouldn’t have sunk the ship.

I wonder if we can still be “underground bloggers” – how gritty does that sound? – now that the Association has been gutted. Is the mere existence (on paper) of the Association enough to make us non-members “blogging from the underground”?

Blogging: the Underground

Stoya
Gritty

…Nocturne, famed for his discriminate flames in the blogging underground, leads a ragtag crew of misfits and outcasts. Their aim? They ask for no more than simple respect. Yes, that which you or I, reading this from the air-conditioned comfort of our homes, with our broadband connections and unlimited bandwidth, take for granted.

Why do you do this? I ask him, why do you not just join the Association?

“Why, you ask?” he replies, his voice bearing the certain charisma of one born to leadership, touched by greatness, “We bring truth to power, because–”

His question is unanswered. In that moment, the underground door of the underground bunker – a small outpost for the blogging underground, but, for this crew, “home” – is busted open. The Ministry of Home Affairs has arrived.

“There,” a woman points. I recognise her as Eastcoastlife, “penpal” of Singapore’s Minister Prime.

The officers with her – rough men, who have seen many a battle, and who bear without complaint the scars of war – lift their weapons.

It happened in a blur.

How quickly the lonely light is snuffed out, leaving us, again, in the darkness.

Years later, in a nameless bar in the nameless Singapore nights, I ran across a man who had served under Nocturne.

What would he have said, I asked that man, my soul yearning for the answer that has haunted me these intervening years.

“Nocturne would have said,” the man replied, and, here, he paused, overwhelmed by emotion, “he would have said we do it because it was the right thing to do.”

The right thing to do?

Maybe it is.

But in the underground, where things are never so simple, just doing the right thing can cost you. Cost you dearly.

Why Blog?

Of course, I am hardly so noble as to blog for Truth. Nor am I so frivolous as to blog “for fun”. No, like any good Singaporean, I write sorely for profit (Also, spreading word, my grandeur, etc).

Last year, the popup has annoyed enough people to buy me a cup a tea. A cup of tea that I would not have without this blog.

To all three of my readers, thank you for buying me a drink. It was a good drink.

I read somewhere that some PR agencies are paying bloggers to say good things about their clients/products.

I would like to take this opportunity to state that my integrity is not only for sale, it is cheap. My integrity is “almost new” and “rarely used”. I understand the going rate is thirty pieces of silver. I’ll accept twenty, seeing as we’re in Depression 2.0.

Sounds Good

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

Legends of Pork

Has anyone noticed that – recession or not – the price of bak kwa, at ±$50 is pretty close to what it was last year, which is pretty close to an all-time high?

I’m willing to sell bak kwa futures at $54/kg for next Chinese New Year. If anyone is willing to offer a lower price, please let me know.

The world needs a market in bak kwa futures.

nocturne, King Pear – My editor has died mere seconds after Final Edit on this (oh, lucky you). Since all I did was the exact same thing I've been doing every day for years now, I have no clue why it gave up the ghost and even less clue why the blog, which uses much the same code, is still running (again, lucky you). Due to issues with my FTP, which my darling hosts are totally ignoring, this might be the last post for a bit. Also, I'm busy gaming (both "gambling" and "on a PC").
