I deleted a comment by Grievous, the Grapevine Spider, apropos the current crossover political discourse, which I later reinstated. I deleted the comment because I felt it was unnecessarily snide. On the other hand, Grievous is snide. And, let’s not forget, I had some part to play in gaoling him to reply earlier on. The main question is whether he should be snide here. I mean, I’m snide – we can’t have everybody snidely sniping away. I’d rather we keep things civil within my blog, because dour fruits are sour fruits. The thing about this is that Free Speech is chaos, all the people who can never agree shouting out their never-ending disagreements. It’s a market, and on the other end of the scale is an echo chamber. The question, and it’s a nebulous one, is where I want this blog to be. And I decided I wanted interactivity, so I reinstated the comment. You lot should talk amongst yourself, and you shouldn’t have to hold back. Just to be clear, I still do not believe in Free Speech, and I still believe in the Right of Reply. I have every right to remove any comment as I see fit, my reasons don’t have to make sense to anyone. The only mitigating factor is, if you are attacked, you should be allowed to defend yourself, in a way I consider reasonable. Thus, it’s not anything goes, but it’s pretty close. Come to think of it, I’ve barely deleted comments before, and those I have are from my regular readers, for various reasons.
