missing ewe

☾
In the pasture of the sky,
where all the sheep are clouds,
and the wind passes by-and-by,
while the sun quietly peeks out;
The flock would happily graze,
upon the grass of subtle blue,
and thusly spend their ovine days,
working on their chew.
The moon would take her appointed turn,
as the wind passes by-and-by,
and the sheep would leap the firmament,
across the pasture of the sky.
One by one, with bleat and baa,
not one would jump too soon,
not one would break the queue lunar,
until all had jumped the moon.
And one day fine, it came to be,
as the wind passes by-and-by,
a wolf found such delicacy
as the mutton of the sky!
The hunter charged with lupine haste,
upon the grass of subtle hue,
and thusly scattered his prey from space,
and ended up missing ewe.
Alone, in the pasture of the sky,
he howled, downcast, distraught
while the wind passes by-and-by,
wishing for mint lamp chop!
Thus he came to look at all the clouds,
the fallen wool of those who ran,
and realised he’d never catch them in a rout,
without a cunning plan –
He took the wool and stuck it on,
as the wind passes by-and-by,
’til as a sheep, he was reborn,
of the pasture of the sky!
“As one of them, I shall pretend,
unbeknownst, I shall hide,
I shall cosset them, the little lambs!
I shall wait before I strike!”
In the pasture of the sky,
where all the sheep are clouds,
and the wind passes by-and-by,
the wolf faded in the crowd.
The flock returned to happy graze,
upon the grass of subtle blue,
the wolf even took his smiling place,
within their lunar queue!
Before the moon, his turn had come,
as the wind passes by-and-by,
what fun there was to make that jump,
across the pasture of the sky!
Such fun he had never had before,
as that leap by satallite,
“No more meat then, meat no more!
If I could do this every night!”
And so when you lay your head to sleep,
quietly counting, cloudy sheep;
remember, amongst the ovine flock,
is a lupine member in a frock!
Know that all of nature can be changed,
if even a wolf can from meat estranged;
what else could be more contrarian,
than this, the wolf turned vegetarian?
